Hey folks, did you have a lovely October? I had a great month! It was busy, but we were able to take some time off and go down to Long Beach Island for a bit of R&R. We hit up Daddy O in Brant Beach, which is one of the places I recommend that you check out in the off-season on LBI. Early October is the best time to go down the shore, in my opinion, but I’ll digress. Let’s dig into all of the food news you might have missed.
Philly Grub Wins Metro Philly’s Best Philly Blogger 2021!
First, I’m pleased to announce that Philly Grub was voted Metro Philly’s Best Philly Blogger for 2021. After 13 years, this is the first award it has ever won. I was shocked it was a category and I was nominated. In fact, I didn’t know it was nominated until almost a month into voting. I’m glad that people still value blogs and bloggers. This is a labor of love and I’m truly grateful for the recognition. Thank you for voting!

Lots of new openings and fun things coming soon! 1) Figo Ristorante and Figo Pizzeria opened in Northern Liberties in the old Wahlburgers spot; 2) Gaurd House Cafe, a chef-driven eatery featuring La Colombe coffee and comfort food, opened in the Frankford Arsenal campus in Bridesburg; 3) Chef Nicholas Elmi and Restaurateur Fia Berisha opened Lark at Ironworks in Bala Cynwyd, PA; 4) Sojourn Philly, led by restaurateur Jill Weber, has opened REX at the Royal Theater on South Street; 5) Philly vegan fast-casual chain HipCityVeg opened its first NYC location; 6) Old City’s Royal Boucherie launched a Negroni Bar; 7) Chefs Jose Garces and Steven Seibel just opened Hook & Master in Fishtown which will serve Chicago pizzas, seafood-centric small plates, and feature a 2nd-floor tiki lounge; 8) Victory Brewing’s taproom on Benjamin Frankly Parkway is now open; 9) Middle Child Clubhouse is now open in Fishtown; 10) Stephen Starr opens LMNO in Fishtown; 11) CAVA in Moorestown is now open, replacing Zoe’s Kitchen; 12) Donkey’s Cheesesteaks has added a location in Mount Holly; 13) Poke Bros. opens in Gloucester Township, NJ.
